Skyway Bridge to close for Skyway 10K Event

Parts of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg are scheduled to close Sunday morning for the annual Skyway 10K. Event organizers said the northbound lanes of the bridge will be closed Sunday, March, 6, from 3:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Additionally, 4th Avenue South near Tropicana Field will not be available for public access between MLK and 16th Street South from approximately 3 a.m. until 11 a.m., as the traffic flow will be reversed for bussing.

Southbound lanes of the bridge will remain open in only the southbound direction. Drivers who need to get across the bridge heading northbound will need to make other arrangements between 3:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Organizers said the annual 10K benefits the Armed Forces Families Foundation. More information visit Skyway10K.com.

The Skyway 10K is point-to-point from Manatee County to Pinellas County running northbound. Racers will be bused to the start line on the bridge. Once over the bridge, buses will be waiting at the finish line to take racers back to Tropicana Field.

8,000 runners were allowed to register for the race.

On Sunday, March 6, 2022, the Skyway 10K returns!  Runners and walkers of all levels will once again have the opportunity to cross over the span of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. In its fifth year, the iconic bridge, covering three Florida counties, will serve as the breathtaking setting and 6.2-mile course for an incredible race experience.

In 2021, the virtual Skyway 10K raised over $134,000 for the Armed Forces Families Foundation (AFFF), and to date, more than $1.8 million total has been raised for the Armed Forces Families Foundation by the Skyway 10K.  For the 5th Annual Skyway 10K Bridge Run, 100 percent of all race registration fees will once again benefit the AFFF and support our military and their families!

General Registration for the 2022 Skyway 10K will be based on a lottery, through which hopeful runners will need to register when it opens on Monday, October 18th at Skyway10K.com.

The first 2,000 runners who participated virtually in the 4th Annual Virtual Skyway 10K earlier this year will be provided Priority Registration.

The price of general admission registration is $80 per person, non-refundable, and there will be a total of 8,000 registration spots, with 7,500 of those spots designated as general admission and the remaining 500 designated as VIP.  Again, 2,000 of those general admission spots will be allocated to those first 2,000 runners who participated in the 2021 Virtual Skyway 10K.

VIP registration will cost $300 per person and features access to free food and drinks, VIP restrooms, a gaming area, and VIP swag at the VIP tent on race weekend, both during the race expo on Saturday and on race day on Sunday at Tropicana Field.

Unlike the 2021 race, which was held virtually, the 2022 race is scheduled to resume being held in person. However, race officials will continue to monitor guidance and recommendations from the CDC and the Florida Department of Health.
