Weedon Island Gopher Trail Run

The Gopher Weedon Trail Run is BACK! Scheduled for October 29, this will be the 10th year the Friends of Weedon Island has hosted the professionally timed event that is held on the Preserve’s trails and boardwalks. The run flows through mangroves, salt marsh, and Florida scrub habitat. You may even see wildlife including egrets, herons, roseate spoonbills, and the slow-moving gopher tortoise (a threatened species for which the race was named). Indian mounds and dune ridges make the event especially unique. Refreshments and an awards ceremony close out the morning.

This year we’re especially pleased to announce a new sponsor: Ecomersion Kayak and SUP Rentals (https://ecomersion.com).Located on Weedon Drive, just beyond the main parking lot entrance, Ecomersion also offers naturalist led guided interpretive tours through the mangroves.

To best protect the Preserve’s trails and ecosystem, the Trail Run is limited to 200 participants. To assure your space, register early!
