Free Weekend Camps

St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch Launches Free Weekend Camps for Hurricane Idalia Affected Families

In response to the recent devastating Hurricane Idalia, Mayor Kenneth T. Welch and the City leadership of St. Petersburg have swiftly arranged two free weekend camps to support the affected families.

The Shore Acres Recreation Center, located at 4230 Shore Acres Blvd NE in the middle of the Shore Acres neighborhood – an area severely impacted by flooding – is set to host the weekend camps on September 2-3 and September 9-10. Importantly, these camps are offered at no cost to the city’s residents and are open to youth from kindergarten to eighth grade. However, due to space constraints, there is a limited number of spots available.

Mayor Kenneth T. Welch expressed his thoughts, stating, “The aftermath of a storm involves arduous and stressful cleanup efforts. For parents busy with restoring their homes and planning the next steps, maintaining a semblance of normalcy for their children can be particularly challenging. I am incredibly grateful to our Parks and Recreation team for their extra efforts in organizing these post-storm weekend camps, which will undoubtedly help lighten the load for many of our families.”

The camps are scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but will not be available on Monday, September 4. Parents are required to register their children in person at the center and are also asked to provide a non-refrigerated lunch.

For additional information or inquiries, please reach out to the Shore Acres Recreation Center at 727-893-7758.
