Butterfly Walk with Ron Smith

Join Ron Smith, author of “The Butterflies of Pinellas County”, on a hike around Weedon Island Preserve to learn about and observe the colorful butterflies that call the Preserve home. Ron Smith is a lifelong outdoor enthusiast and retired St. Petersburg police officer. His 35+ years of birding brought him to an interest in butterflies in the early 2000s, specifically the butterflies of Florida and Pinellas County. Understanding a butterfly’s way of life and its loyalty to specific plants and habitat has become a never-ending pursuit. Copies of Ron’s newest book on butterflies will be available in the Center’s gift shop, and you can get yours signed by the author.
This program will start in the classroom of the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center for a short introduction before heading outside to begin the guided hike. This hike is recommended for adults and youth ages 8 and up. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars and camera!
Spots are limited for this walk so registration is required. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/…/butterfly-walk-tickets…
