La Segunda Bakery & Café, a family-owned, Ybor City-based business founded in 1915, plans to open a new location in St. Petersburg March 21.
La Segunda’s latest cafe will be located at 2436 Fourth St. N., in the Holiday Plaza. In 2018, it opened a location on Kennedy Boulevard just west of Dale Mabry Highway.
The 1,820-square-foot St. Pete cafe, according to a news release, will offer grab-and-go meals, indoor seating for 40 guests and a pet-friendly patio that can accommodate 28 customers. It will offer many of the same menu items as its Tampa locations, including made-to-order Cuban sandwiches, salads, cafe con leche, guava and cheese turnovers, quesitos, Italian cookies and flan.
“We really love this area of St. Petersburg,” fourth-generation owner Copeland More states in the release. “It has a great mix of residential and office space, and it’s also very walkable. We can’t wait to bring a slice of Ybor City to the Sunshine City and greet our new neighbors with the smell of fresh-baked Cuban bread. We often have visitors from St. Petersburg at our two Tampa locations, so we’re very excited to continue our expansion efforts across the bay.”
The original La Segunda Bakery is located at 2512 N. 15th St. in Ybor City. Founded by Juan More, it’s the world’s largest producer of Cuban bread, churning out some 18,000 loaves every day.

La Segunda is known for its authentic, made from scratch recipes which have been a staple of the business for 106 years. The St. Pete location will offer many of the same menu items as its Tampa locations, including made to order Cuban sandwiches, salads, scacciata, guava and cheese turnovers, quesitos, Italian cookies, flan and other delicious favorites. La Segunda Bakery & Café will also brew Ybor-based Naviera brand coffee.

Bringing Ybor City vibes to St. Petersburg
The uniquely decorated interior will reflect La Segunda’s Ybor City roots. Red brick accent walls represent many of the neighborhood’s buildings. Custom made iron work accents, similar to the Spanish and Italian architecture of Tampa’s 7th Avenue, will grace areas of the café and were designed by Tampa-based Vasquez Custom Metals. The historic five-globe street lights of Ybor City will be re-interpreted through globe-shaped pendant lighting and mounted lamps throughout the café.
